Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I not receiving alerts?

Make sure location permissions are set to "Always Allow" in your device settings, and that notifications are enabled for CarryAware. Background location access is required for alerts to fire while the app is not on screen.

Why did I get an alert while driving past a location?

CarryAware includes speed-aware filtering to suppress drive-by alerts, but this depends on your sensitivity settings. You can increase the speed threshold or lower the sensitivity level in Settings.

A location is missing or incorrect — how do I report it?

Use the "Submit a Location" option inside the app (found on the Home or Search screen). Your submission will be reviewed and added to a future data update.

Does the app work without an internet connection?

Yes. Location data tiles and state law references are cached on your device after the first load. Core alerting works offline once the data has been downloaded.

Which states are supported?

CarryAware currently covers New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts, with more states planned.

Is my location data private?

Yes. CarryAware processes your GPS data entirely on your device. Your location is never sent to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

What does "buffer zone" mean?

Many restricted locations have a legal buffer extending beyond the property boundary — for example, 1,000 feet around a school. CarryAware's alert radius reflects that legal buffer, not just the building footprint.
